Ah ouch.
Look I just really like dramatic horns and hair popping out of the panels, is that so bad?
OK but actually, from a composition perspective, somebody like Alsip (big horns) or Will (big hair) can sometimes pose a problem in smaller panels. You typically want the expressive bit (not always the face but in these cases the faces) kind of centered, and you want to include the recognizable bits- their silhouette. So you end up doing one of a few options:
1, pulling out a little, including more in the individual panel that you really want, and shrinking the subject in the process;
2. saying fuck it and cutting out the silhouette elements, which can make a character more obscure;
3. adjusting your panels to include the big head stuff and pushing the face lower in the panel, changing your focus;
or 4, what I end up doing a lot, which is just letting the big hair energy overflow.
Anyway, I think about a lot of this more consciously now, but I originally plotted this page some years ago, when it was a more unconscious process. So kudos to Young Julia I guess! Even with all the little mistakes I see now, looking back, I’m proud of what we made.
Alsip: How many times do you think I've heard this before, kid?
Panel 2
Alsip: You've been out there on your spirit journey for how long? Two years? Two and a half?
Panel 3
Alsip: I'm sticking my neck out for you!
Panel 4
Alsip: When I first picked you guys up, where were you? Playing dive bars for spare change.
Panel 5
Alsip: But I saw something in you guys that's sorely missing from this universe- raw energy, ambition, some real fucking talent.
Panel 6
Alsip: That's why I bet big on you.
Panel 7
Alsip: It's up to you to show you were worth it.
